Only in San Diego...well maybe all of Silicon Valley would be more appropriate. Despite many significant world-impacting advancements in the past half-century such as the artificial heart, satellite, nuclear power and nanotechnology, I believe the silicon chip is the most influential of them all. The ripple effect that the silicon chip has made for technology has enabled hundreds of new gadgets, devices and advanced electronics to come to life. It not only paved the way to more sophisticated yet convenient technological developments but also proved its significant value when American electrical engineers Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce created it, as it quickly became the nucleus of all revolutionized modern machinery.
Without this colossal-bearing miniature device, we would be without thousands of the products on the market today. The silicon chip, in a way was an industrial revolution of its own. Bulky equipment has been replaced by smaller yet more powerful mechanisms. The reason why it has reduced the size of electronics is due to the silicon chips’ ability to hold thousands of transistors. These transistors ultimately lead to creating many outstanding technological devices such as microprocessors. Therefore, behind all the glamour of the World Wide Web, lies the simple but very comprehensive silicon chip.
Amazingly, after all it has done for technology already, it is still being used today for great useful inventions in a large variety of fields.
