My ultimate dream is to work for MTV News as a news anchor after I finish college. Since I was little, I have been watching MTV and thought it would be cool to work their. Also, I am a music lover who knows a lot about different music artists and genres.
Right now, I am a junior at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I chose Ball State because they are well known for their school of telecommunications and journalism. My major is telecommunications with my option being news and my minor is journalism. I picked telecommunications as my major because I know it will help me to achieve my dream and picked journalism as my minor because I love to write. In addition to talking to people, it is one of my strengths.
This summer, I am interning at a local news station as a feature reporter so that I can be as prepared and experienced as possible. This will hopefully bring me one step closer to achieving my dream. I will also be getting involved in more extracurricular activities in school that have to deal with my area of interest.
I will get involved in the entertainment program as an anchor, write for the hip-hop newspaper and hopefully try to get my own segment on the school radio station. I am interested in print, broadcast and radio. Therefore, if I have experience in all three, then I will have a better chance of getting a job in one of those fields right after college.
My field of study is very competitive and hard to break into. That is why I am interning and networking with professionals in all three fields so I can save myself as much trouble as possible. On the other hand, a part of my dream is to get an internship at MTV. Consequently, that would give me an even better chance of working there.
Many times, journalists get a bad rap for reporting too much of what’s going on or not enough. When I become an anchor, I will report anything that is relevant to MTV viewers. Being an anchor is harder than it looks, but I am up for the challenge. Plus, traveling around the world is something I look forward to.
There are a plethora of people who would like to work for MTV, but I know that I will. My kindness, willingness to go the extra mile, love and knowledge of music along with my drive to achieve my dream makes me stand out from the rest. I just have to stay focused and pray.
I look at the anchors on MTV and they look like they are having fun doing their job. So many people go through life never doing what they know they are born to do. I pray that I get that opportunity. I think that anyone who wakes up everyday and goes to a job that they enjoy is pretty lucky.
