In our society today, sports are an important part of our lives. Many people are influenced from watching sports. They see their favorite team win the championship game on television or they are inspired when their favorite athlete reaches an all-time record. Sports are life for some people, whether they are professional athletes, college starters, high school team members, or even a little leaguer. Athletes are our entertaining, influential role models, and that is why they deserve the wages they receive.
When a child sees an athlete on television and says he wants to be just like him, that means something. When a fan goes to a game and sees his favorite athlete score the winning point, they are ecstatic. Athletes work hard, practice everyday, and perform their best in the game. They spend so much time away from their families and friends to do something they love. It’s their job; just like any other job. It’s not just a game to them; it’s life. They do the best they can every time they are on the field. Athletes are so passionate about what they do. They have to be the best of the best to play for the professional leagues out there. This takes lots of talent, commitment, and heart, which not everyone has. Very few people who enjoy playing sports have what it takes to go all the way. Very few can take it to the professional level. The ones who do are the ones who deserve a good pay check. The ones who are kind, thoughtful, and determined are the role models of our society. Being an athlete is a full time job with not much time for anything else, but they love it.
Various athletes, however, have given a bad name to other players. The ones who break the law ruin it for the rest and should publicly apologize to their fans. The media, however, makes these athletes look worse than they should. The reason athletes get so much media coverage is because they are great and talented. When one of them makes a mistake, everyone in the country knows about it within seconds because of too much coverage. The athlete should take full responsibility, but it should also be private. With that said, when people say athletes are role models and should be perfect in front of the eyes of their children, everyone must remember one thing. Athletes are people too and they make mistakes just like the rest of us. Athletes shouldn’t get a pay cut just because a select few have made past errors. Athletes deserve their pay as well as the title of role model, despite the actions of a few others.
Athletes are great. They are talented. Most of all, they are passionate about what they do and that’s why they deserve the pay they get.
